CSPSR - Student research paper 2025

Dear colleagues,

We would like to inform you that the application of the students’ research papers starts on Monday, November 17th, 2025.

You can apply your theme by sending the e-mail as described below.

Subject: Course you are writing the paper in (Exact discipline of Internal Medicine)

E-mail has to contain:
 

1.   Mentor’s Application Form, fully filled (blank document attached at the end of this article)

2.  Proof of enrolment in the current academic year for the 1st time (A screenshot of the “Enrollments” (Upisi) page on e-Student for the author and co-authors or a scanned/photographed confirmation of enrollment in the academic year 2025/2026)

3.  Certificate of grades (A screenshot of the “Exams” (Ispiti) page on e-Student for the author and co-authors showing the GPA and the grade in the subject from which the paper is being submitted or a scanned/photographed transcript with grades)

4.  If the Mentor has Teaching Associate position (asistent / klinički asistent), proof of at least one authorial publication published in journal with impact factor 0.5 or higher is required (link or document)

5. According to the CSPSR Regulations, every submitted paper must have approval from the Ethics Committee for Student Scientific Research of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade. The documents needed to be sent in the application e-mail required for obtaining this approval are:

     For clinical and preclinical research involving patient data and/or patient materials:
Approval from the Ethics Committee/Board of the institution from which the data/material were obtained, as well as a signed Disclosure of personal data (available at the end of this article).

     For studies involving work with experimental animals:
Filled Request form for giving an opinion and approving a student's scientific research paper (blank form available at the end of this article), along with the existing Ethics Committee/Board approval for the use of experimental animals in the study, and proof that the mentor holds a license for working with experimental animals (a photo of the student record book showing the passed exam or a certificate for working with experimental animals).
 *Before mentioned existing Ethical approvals can be submitted after topic application, until February 15th, 2026.

     For studies involving cell lines, cadaveric material, or questionnaires not conducted on patients (e.g., students):
Filled Request form for giving an opinion and approving a student's scientific research paper (available at the end of this article). For questionnaire-based studies, it is necessary to submit a universal template of the Patient Information Sheet and Informed Consent Form. For studies involving cadaveric material, signed Disclosure of personal data (available at the end of this article).

The deadline for topic submission is Monday, December 15th, by midnight. Incomplete or late submissions will not be considered. Topic acceptance will be confirmed via e-mail within five days after the deadline, and you will be contacted if any additional information is required. Mentors will receive confirmation of topic acceptance via email.

If you do not get confirmation that we have recieved your e-mail in 48 hours, check if you are sending e-mail to the right address or feel free to contact any of the Center for Students' Professional and Scientific Research (CSPSR) members.

Only original students’ scientific-research papers done in any teaching base of Medical Faculty, University of Belgrade can be applied. It is not allowed to apply papers in form of case reports, review papers or meta-analysis.

Paper must not be published or accepted to be published in journal before, or be a part of a PhD or Master thesis or an academic specialization paper.

 

Who can apply the theme?

- Any regular student who enrolled in at least 3rd semester of Integrated academic studies of Medicine or an intern

- Students are allowed to write the paper only at departments where they passed the exam and got grade 9 or higher (to apply paper from Chemistry, Medical Biochemistry has to be passed; in case of Biophysics, Medical Physiology or Radiology have to be passed)

- Average grade 8.00 or higher

- 6th year students can apply paper from courses they are listening during their 6th year of studies (11th semester)

- All conditions apply to authors and co-authors. The paper must not have more than two co-authors.

During one academic year, a student may be:

     the author of one paper and co-author of one paper, or

     co-author of two papers.

Adding authors or co-authors after submission will not be permitted.

Students writing a research paper for the first time are required to attend an educational seminar organized by CSPSR. According to Article 13 of the CSPSR Regulations, students who do not meet this requirement will not be allowed to present their paper at the Mini Symposium. This seminar will be in the form of a 2 hour lecture organised in the second half of January. More information will be available in December.

Who can be a mentor?

Every student must have a mentor during the preparation of the paper. In the case of multidisciplinary research, the student may have up to two mentors, who must belong to different scientific fields, i.e., different departments.

The mentor of an original student paper must be employed at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade, in a teaching position (assistant professor, associate professor, full professor) or in a teaching associate position (assistant, clinical assistant), in which case they have to provide proof of at least one first-author publication in a journal with an impact factor of at least 0.5 in the year of publication.

A mentor in a teaching position (assistant professor, associate professor, full professor) may supervise or co-supervise up to two student papers per academic year.
A mentor in a teaching associate position (assistant/clinical assistant) may supervise or co-supervise one paper per academic year.
