VI SEMESTER PATHOLOGY-GENERAL INFORMATION

23rd June 2025
  1. Lectures will be posted on your study platform on Mondays, according to a general schedule.  If you have any questions pertaining lectures already posted you can email dr Tomić and she will forward those questions to designated teachers. We can also schedule in person or online consultations if there are any topics you have issues with.

  2. Your seminars and histopathology labs are due on Thursdays, from 14.00 hours. Due to a tight schedule of only 10 weeks, we will have to operate in a condensed manner, meaning that you will alternate every week between seminars and labs.

Example:  during first week of VI semester, on Thursday,  3rd July,  you are scheduled to have 2 seminars (Skin+Gastrointestinal pathology)-seminars will be held online but will be INTERACTIVE, IN REAL TIME. That means that ALL STUDENTS NEED TO LOG INTO  Pathology study platform and attend the seminar. Interaction with teachers is welcomed and expected. On the second week (Thursday , 11th July) you have 2 labs scheduled (Endocrine system+Skin). Labs will be held at the Institute of Human genetics (not Histology as in fifth semester since we had to change the venue due to reconstruction of Institute of Pathology). All labs will also be posted on your study platform.

  1. Your schedule will be posted regularly in the NEWS section and you will be informed if there are any changes

  2. Autopsy is scheduled every Friday from 11.00 hours. Autopsy venue is Institute of Forensic medicine. If there is no autopsy ready  at 11.00, students are required to wait until 12.00 hours-if after 12.00 hours there is still no autopsy scheduled, students will be dismissed by their teaching assistant. Autopsy groups will be posted soon in the NEWS section plus you will be informed via email.  Before attending autopsy students are required to read HANDBOOK OF HOSPITAL AUTOPSY PRACTICALS that was provided at the start of fifth semester-it will introduce them to history, legislation, protocols, techniques  and special forms of autopsies.  Autopsy is performed with the outmost respect for the deceased, so any form of loud or disrespectful communication and/or use of mobile phones (making videos, taking pictures etc.) is strictly forbidden. Since autopsy requires a certain amount of physical strain, we recommend that you take your meal early in the morning and come hydrated; also we do not recommend attending autopsy in high heels or any sort of slippery uncomfortable footwear.  If you feel nauseous or dizzy at any time during the course of the autopsy, you need to promptly  inform your teaching assistant. After the autopsy, when our lab prepares histopathology slides, you will also have e-classrooms, and will be informed about the schedule in due time. Before the autopsy you will be provided with personal protective gear (caps, gloves, green coats, foot protection). We recommend taking your Handbook of hospital autopsy practicals with you since there you have pages designated for taking notes and drawings during 3 mandatory autopsies in your curriculum.

  3. Last week of semester is designated for slide reviews (slides from V+VI semester) and, if there is any need, makeups.
