Aims:
The main objective of the course is to familiarize students with:
a) the biological characteristics of infectious agents (morphology, structure, antigenic materials, pathogenicity and virulence, reproduction, sensitivity and resistance of microorganisms to physical and chemical agents)
b) pathogenetic processes at the level of interaction between the host and the infectious agent,
c) the mechanisms of action of antimicrobial drugs and mechanisms of bacterial resistance to antimicrobial agents
d) the principles and possibilities of laboratory diagnostics of diseases caused by infectious agents
e) immunoprophylaxis of infectious diseases.
Outcomes:
Knowledge acquired in the course of teaching of microbiology enables the doctor to medicine:
a) identify the possible causes of infectious diseases in the context of clinical manifestations,
b) determine the type of patient material for the diagnosis of the disease,
c) correctly interpreted microbiological findings and
g) implementation of control measures and prevention of infectious diseases.
