Dear students,
It was a pleasure to meet you all today.
I am glad you have started your surgical course successfully.
However I expect the attendance of theoretical lectures to be a bit better (namely, less than half of you have attended lecture today). Please have in mind that all lecturers had worked hard to prepare lectures for you.
I have already pointed that the attendance of theoretical lectures, although not obligatory according to the current rule book, would be stimulated through activity points. Here is how it will work: for every 4 theoretical lectures documented absence through the year, student will lose one activity point (from maximal 10.)
That means e.g. if someone lose all 10 pts, (miss 40 theoretical lectures) he/she can not get better final mark than 9 even though he/she get maximal points (90) from 2 colloquiums and final test.
Please take care of the number of missed lectures and practicals by yourself. I would much appreciate if you spare me of demands to present the table of missed theoretical and practical classes for each student periodically despite the fact I would have the evidence. I would do my best not to make harm to anyone as the idea is to stimulate the attendance, not to give any penalties.
Finally, I will put the theoretical lectures on the online study platform in the recorded (narative) format (majority of them) which is much better than simply attaching PPT presentations. But I will put them there with some time delay in order not to destimulate students from attending real live lectures.
Sincerely
Prof Miroslav Marković, Course director
